What is the Purpose of Life?
After supper when the shadows are long, my son and I play four-square. We stand on opposite sides of the driveway separated by an invisible line. We bounce the ball back and forth trying not to lose. If the ball bounces twice in your square or you don’t hit the ball, then you are out.
Four-square brings minutes of giggles and smiles into our lives. Sometimes the monotony of life feels like a bouncing ball, and I forget what the purpose is.
King Solomon searched for the meaning of life and wrote about his experiences in the book of Ecclesiastes. He finally concluded, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all.” Ecclesiastes 12:13
My purpose is to respect God and obey Him. Am I focusing on these truths, or am I distracted by possessions, pleasures, and vain pursuits?
Lord, please help me to remember life goes quickly and focus on what matters. Help me to glorify You in whatever I do.
