Ready to Fight - part 2
Last week I shared about my boys' nerf war adventures and how they loved playing with their friends.
They decided when they would play war. It was their choice.
In our lives we don't get to choose when a battle starts and stops.
We have to always be prepared because Satan prowls like a hungry lion ready to devour us (I Peter 5:7). He sneaks around and looks for opportunities to puncture our faith (2 Corinthians 11:3).
Are we ready to fight?
We are ready to fight when we rely on God's STRENGTH and SUIT UP in His ARMOR.
We must dress for battle every morning by putting on the FULL ARMOR of GOD.
"13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests." Ephesians 6:13-18 NIV
We go to our prayer closet and put on:
Belt of Truth
God's Word is our foundation. We wrap ourselves in God's truth to ward off lies and doubts of the enemy. We live lives of integrity by doing the right thing even if no one is watching.
Breastplate of Righteousness
Christ's sacrifice covers our sins when we accept His forgiveness. We stand righteous before God because of His work. We live righteously by obeying God's Word.
Shoes with the Gospel of Peace
The gospel transformed our lives and delivered peace to us. We share the good news with others. Our actions and speech attract others to Christ.
Shield of Faith
Our faith in God deflects false teaching that would otherwise shake our beliefs. We trust in the Lord to help us through our hard times. He promises to never leave us nor forsake us.
Helmet of Salvation
As Christians, we have hope of eternity with Christ. We need to renew our minds with Scripture to keep our focus correct. Our time is limited and we must live for Christ.
Sword of the Spirit
God's Word is our sword. It is "alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword" (Hebrews 4:12 NIV) We correctly handle our instruction book by studying and memorizing it.
Pray always in good and bad times.
Soldiers dressed in God's armor are prepared to fight. The battle may seem long and we may grow weary, but we know the outcome. God wins!
My boys gathered the right equipment to play war with their friends. We fight our battles by relying on God's strength and putting on the armor of God.
Every piece is important. We need to hide God's Word in their hearts, live lives of integrity, choose purity, share the gospel, live by faith, and pray.
Lord, thank you for giving us spiritual armor that demolishes strongholds. Help us to suit up every day and stand ready to fight.
