Ready to Fight - part 1

"Do you see them?" whispered my son crouched behind the tree.

"No, do you?" mumbled his friend with the red bandana tied around his forehead.

Scanning the yard, the boys adjusted their nerf guns and crept around the house.

As they peeked around the corner, they shouted, "There they are! Get them!"

They sprinted towards their friends and fired a flurry of nerf bullets through the air.

My kids loved playing war. They gathered their nerf equipment and gave 110%.

Today a spiritual battle rages around us. We need to prepare our weapons and be ready to fight.

Are we ready to fight?

In our sinful pride, we think we are capable of following God in our own strength, but our resources are insufficient to win the battle against spiritual darkness.

I say I trust in the Lord, but I rely on my strength and ability. When I fail, I get discouraged and wonder, "God, how come you aren't helping me? How will I conquer these challenges?

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." Ephesians 6:10-11 NIV

We must fight our battles in God's STRENGTH and with His SUIT of ARMOR. God gives us everything we need, but we must decide to obey.

How can we fight in God's strength?

"The weapons we fight with are NOT the weapons of the world. On the contrary,

they have divine POWER to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NIV

When the battle seems long and we grow weary, we hope in the Lord.

  • "Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength." Isaiah 40:30-31 NIV

When we don't understand why, we trust in the Lord.

  • "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him." Psalm 28:7 NIV

When we feel insufficient, we rest in His power.

  • "But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

Our strength evaporates quickly, but God's strength is never-ending. We rely on His strength by hoping, trusting, and resting in Him.

My boys were ready to play when they gathered their gear and gave it their all.

We are ready to fight when we rely on God's STRENGTH and SUIT UP in His ARMOR.
