Do You See Me?

When did you experience something unexpected?

Once a upon a time, when I was a little girl:), my family and I lived in South America. My parents took my siblings and I to the zoo.

I was the oldest at four, my sister fifteen-months-behind-me, and then my baby brother. One parent gripped my sister's hand and mine, while the other pushed my brother's stroller.

As we turned the corner, loud chattering filled our ears. An open fenced area housed several monkeys. Water trickled around the base of the hill that was dotted with trees and a little wooden building beyond that.

A few monkeys nibbled on bananas, while others swung from trees. One monkey tiptoed through the water, perched at the top of the fence, and stared at our blond family.

Before we could blink, the monkey scaled the fence and snatched my brother's bottle!! He scurried back over the fence and sat on the top of the building until he gulped all of the milk!

Even though that event happened several years ago, the memory is still fresh in my mind. I wondered, Did anyone just see that? That monkey stole my brother's bottle!

Unexpected situations make us scratch our heads and wonder, Is anyone going to believe this? Why did that happen? and maybe even... God, where are you?

In the Bible Joseph's brothers sold him as a slave and lied to their father about his death. Joseph was taken to Egypt and sold to Potiphar. He worked hard, until Potiphar's wife tried to seduce him and Potiphar threw him in prison.

Through the unexpected events, "The Lord was with Joseph." (Genesis 39:2, 23)

God saw him each step of the way just as he sees us.

"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast."

Psalm 139:7-10 NIV

When life throws unexpected situations, we can take comfort that God sees us.

So no matter what happens, be encouraged. God sees you.

FYI-We did get my brother's bottle back after the zookeeper played tug-a-war with the monkey:)
