3 Keys for Powerful Prayers

How do heroes of the faith pray powerful prayers?

Spiritual giants pray and God answers in mighty ways. How do they utter such effective prayers? What are their secrets?

We serve the same God, but I ponder my fruitless prayers. Inadequacy whispers in my ears as I place them on pedestals. Yet, Biblical characters and heroes of the faith are ordinary people with fears and failures just like me.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.” James 5:16-18 ESV

Am I living an honorable life before God? Or I need to confess some sins and choose new habits? A virtuous life bends God’s ear to my prayers (Proverbs 15:29).

Am I praying from duty or passion? If I desire something, I will diligently strive to achieve it. Do I display the same persistency in my prayer life? God delights in answering those who continually petition (Luke 18:7).

Do I pray generally or specifically? How will I know if God answers my request if I pray ambiguously? God answers specific God-pleasing prayers (James 4:2-3).

Lord, please help me to live a pure life and to purposefully and passionately pray for your glory.
